Dir. Tom Berninger / 2013 / USA / 1hr 15mins
The National’s unique take on melancholic indie rock has seen their critical acclaim and sell-out tour status swiftly rise in recent years. When the band’s lead singer Matt Berninger invites his younger brother to be a part of the crew on their biggest tour to date, Tom – a budding filmmaker and a horror and metal fan – decides to bring his camera along. He captures the highs, lows and many mistakes as a rookie roadie, often testing the patience of many a band, crew and family member along the way. Tom eventually manages to step out of the shadows and brings to our screens an often hilarious, at times cringe-making, but very touching tale of two very different brothers.
